Internet Health Report Uncovers Three Issues of Growing Concern

Who controls the internet? How open is it? Who is welcome online? Is it safe? Who can succeed there? Mozilla’s Internet Health Report, an open source compilation of data, research, and stories, shows how the internet is evolving across these five issues.

The editor of the report, Solana Larsen, joined Digital Civil Society Lab Director Lucy Bernholz and a panel of internet experts in September to explore how we can define, measure, and foster a healthy internet for civil society.

The 2018 report uncovers three topics of concern: the spread of fake news; securing the Internet of Things; and the encroachment and power consolidation of big tech.

In a recent interview with Al Jazeera, Larsen stressed how “it’s hard to look at one issue and ignore the others” because “they are all linked. The silver lining is that there are ways to make things better, and that there are people and organisations that are trying to make a difference.”
