The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) went into effect on May 25, 2018. It mandates a baseline set of standards for organizations that handle the data of persons residing in the EU to better safeguard the processing and movement of personal data. It requires organizations to protect the personal data and privacy of EU residents for transactions that occur within the EU, and is applicable to organizations operating inside and outside the EU.
